Authorities say a jet boat that was spotted zipping across a Michigan river smashed into a dock, killing three people and seriously injuring a fourth.

The sheriff's department says two couples from Fair Haven were aboard the boat on the St. Clair River on Friday evening.

Killed were boat owner Brian Karasinski, Scott Gearhart and Barbara Gearhart. The owner's wife, Lorraine Karasinski, was hospitalized in serious condition Saturday.

Lt. William J. Krul says containers of alcohol were found aboard the craft. Witnesses say the boat was traveling quickly, but authorities don't know the exact speed.

Toxicology tests and autopsies are planned.
