For almost a decade, radio audiences in the Metroplex have tuned in to Chris Miles, one of the most recognizable building and remodeling personalities in this area. Chris' HouseTalk program is one of the best and most-helpful home building and remodeling radio programs in the country!
WHAT COULD BE MORE IMPORTANT THAN MAKING YOUR HOME MORE ENERGY EFFICIENT?
Introduced to “Green Building” in 2000, Chris began attending numerous building science and green building symposiums and educational seminars.
THE BANNISTER HIGH PERFORMANCE HOUSE
Chris is building the Bannister High Performance House, just a few blocks from historic Main Street in Grapevine. This house is built to be affordable AND environmentally-friendly.
The Bannister House is a 2,400 square foot home with an expected $80 per month heating and cooling cost, due to efficient design and use of several building techniques which increase its efficiency.
The Bannister house is a Department of Energy "Building America" and Building Science Consortium project and scheduled for completion in September 2007.
GREEN BUILDING INITIATIVE
Chris and HouseTalk kicked off the first-ever Green Building initiative for the Greater Dallas HBA in August 2006 with a green housing development in Denton.
In 2004, he produced and managed one of the most widely acclaimed homebuilding projects in Texas, the “2004 Zero Energy Home” (ZEH) project which was publicized in over 55 newspapers across the U.S., including the New York Times, Washington Post and USA Today. The ZEH won the prestigious International Builders Show Award for its energy efficient design. The award was announced at the International Builders Show in Orlando, Florida in 2006.
Seen by more than 40,000 consumers and 5,000 trade professionals, the ZEH showcased the best products and services for energy efficiency, health and durability for both new homes and remodeling existing homes. The Zero Energy Home also won the Best of Show Award at the 2004 Dallas Fall Parade of Homes.
Chris recently completed 2 more green-built homes with energy bills averaging around $55 - $65 per month and will be building more “green” homes in 2007!
